Lumi Lox: the Lantern Fox

Lumi Lox: the Lantern Fox

The Lumi Lox is a small fox-like creature, about the size of a small corgi, that has glowing antenna, markings, and a torch tipped tail. In the Loxes’ homeworld, it’s dangerous to venture out into the night without an enchanted lightsource, for dangerous beasts and shadows have claimed the night as their hunting grounds. Enchanted light is the only thing that seems to ward these dangers away. Loxes use their glow to confuse or blind any predators with flashes or strobes of bright white. Once the predator has been imoboblized, Loxes will flee for a burrow or any form of tall brush to hide away until the danger has passed.

Their glow is not only for defense. It’s also a means of communicating the Loxes’ feelings and moods, depending on the glow’s color.

Loxes are considered very friendly and have a dog-like personality. They wag their tails when happy and even bark…sorta…more like a high pitch, “marf!” sound. Due to their personality, many travelers keep a Lox or two as pets for company and security during night travels.

Colors and Moods

  • Bright Blue = Passive or Curious
  • White = Fear
  • Red = Anger
  • Green = Disgust or Sick
  • Dark Blue = Sleeping
  • Pink = Romantic or In Love
  • Yellow = Uneasy

Eating and Hunting Habbits

Loxes are mostly carnivores, and will hunt smaller creatures like rodents and insects. Sometimes they will eat fruits or vegatation for nutrients such as berries or roots.

Loxes prefer to stalk and blind using a flash from their antennas and tail to catch prey.

Biology and Behaviors

Loxes are warm blooded mammels. They prefer warm climates with plenty of shade. Loxes also prefer to live in small packs for protection. Males are usually bigger than females and a darker blue coat of fur. Both genders will glow pink when in love.

Loxes mate for life. They remain affectinate and faithful to their mates. Females may litters of up to 5 pups. Both genders take part in raising thier young.

Loxes are mostly nocturnal, prefering to hunt at night. They tend to take short naps through at the daytime, only to take small breaks to forage for fruits and roots.

I originally posted the sketch of this creature on here and on my DeviantArt

For this character, it took roughly 20 or more layers on photoshop to color and add effects.

I’ve also posted 3 versions of this pic on my RedBubble realmlocke-msw: a T-Shirt version, Sticker version, and a Print version

Enchanted Necklace of Scales

Originally Posted on my DeviantArt

Bella spent a great deal reading enchanted lore until she came across a manuscript about special necklace. It belonged to a powerful enchantress, who harnessed the raw power of a dragon to increase her magical abilities. However, the manuscript mentions that the necklace comes with a price. A curse of a dragon. The longer the necklace is used, the more the user is fused with the soul of a dragon.

So, she sought and found the necklace, and it did indeed increase her magic tenfold. In fact, it granted too much power that it was hard to control. A strange force refused to give her control. It was like dealing with a wild beast. However, the more she used the necklace, the more she started to “tame” the unknown force. Once she gained full control, it was too late for her to realize that the curse had taken its toll. It started small with scaly skin that she assumed was a rash. Then it escalated to horns, a tail, and fangs. She had become a dragon hybrid.

She was shocked at first, and terrified to show her face. However, after a few weeks, she accepted her curse. She now spends her time studying cursed relics, determined to find a way to break her curse, or at least control the transformation.

For this pic, I decided to draw this character like she was a costume model in makeup (kinda like that show on SyFy; Face/Off).

Wasn’t too sure about the colors at first. Most dragon girls I’ve drawn are variants of red or purple. But, I wanted to make her look like Bella hadn’t been fully transformed, so I tried mixing some reds and flesh tones in to her color.

Overall, I really like how she turned out.

The Lumi Lox

Meet the Lumi Lox, a bioluminescent dog like animal found on RealmLocke. These cute little creatures light up to ward off many of the beasts roaming in the dark. Their tails resemble a bright, shimmering torch. They emit a bright white light when in danger, disorienting any enemies to make a quick eacape. Loxes are non hostile and are known for being friendly, behaving very similar to dogs. In fact, many Lumi Loxes are kept as pets and travel companions.
Lumi Loxes are about the size of a corgi and are apart of a species called Lumis. The largest Lumi is known to be the size of a large wolf. They are called Luminox Wolves. The Luminox is stronger, but does not constantly emit light like Loxes. They instead emit powerful flash to blind and flank any enemy.

Mermaid Reef

This painting was request by a friend of mine at work. She asked for a mermaid for her daughter as a Christmas present. So, I tried to go for a Disney vibe with some elements of the ocean mixed in. For example, her hair resembles the design of a jellyfish.

It took me a couple days to figure out the best design for this pic. I used several layers to get the shading and light of the background just right. Overall, I’m happy with how this painting turned out.

On another note, I’m not sure if I’ll be taking requests just yet, but I’ll be sure to post on here and my deviant art account if I plan to.

Until then, Happy New Year’s!

Caroline ‘ s Mistletoe Dress

Caroline is one of my old original characters. She’s a tan fox with a love of fancy and elegant fashion.

In this sketch, she’s wearing a holiday inspired dress, decorated with Mistletoe accessories.

In the Whisper of Winter

In the Whisper of Winter

A Kirin, an eastern style unicorn, dressed in a winter cloak, walking about the snow covered floor of an old forest.

Goodbye autumn, and welcome Winter. I made this sketch a while back as a farewell to autumn. I focused on drawing something with a sense of elegance and peace. The character in this drawing is based off another Kirin I drew a while back.

Awaken Spring (a Kirin in awe of the first blooms of spring)

The dress in the winter sketch has been redesigned to be longer to be more suitable for the cold and snow. Also, the character is more deer like than the spring sketch (she has hooves instead of paws).

I plan to come back to this sketch and  color it. I’ll post it here when it’s done.

Regal Autumn Ball

Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m finally done with my picture for this fall/thanksgiving.

In this picture, we have a lovely canine couple enjoying a night of dancing in an autumn decorated ballroom.

I wanted to do something this year that would represent fall and/or Thanksgiving. So, I decided on an old colonial style ballroom dance. Thanksgiving kinda has the old fashion charm, so I thought it would be a perfect fit. I focused on using mainly fall based colors (oranges, reds, yellows, etc) and added other elements of fall and Thanksgiving into the décor.

I based the characters off another picture I did a while back. Their names are Lia ( collie mix ) and Andrew ( German Sheppard mix ).
